The Vale Welcomes Russell Esler

The Vale of Atholl Pipe Band are delighted to announce the appointment of Russell Esler to the Teaching Staff of our Tuition Academy.

Russell is an accomplished player, currently playing with the 2019 Grade 1 Scottish Drumming Champions Scottish Power. Russell brings a wealth of experience to the role, whilst also teaching professionally at West Dumbartonshire Council and Hutchesons Grammar School in Glasgow.

Russells role within the Vale of Atholl is to oversee the Drumming Tuition Programme, including the development and improvement of the Grade 4a band, and brand new Novice Juvenile Band. Working alongside Scott Campbell, they will be responsible for ensuring that all new members are guided through the bands tuition programme and given the opportunities to learn, progress and perform throughout the stages of the bands structure.

Principal Instructor Gary Nimmo adds “The appointment of Russell is a huge coup for the band, and someone that i have been able to work with previously. Russell is a hugely sought after instructor so i’m delighted that he’s agreed to work with the band. By appointing additional instructors, we increase the capacity of quality tuition that we can offer at the band, and I look forward to seeing the progress of existing and indeed new players in the coming months.”

The band is always open to new players looking to either start, or indeed renew their playing journeys. The Vale of Atholl has a long standing policy that all tuition is free of charge for pupils, and where possible, loans of instruments and equipment are provided too.
