Drum Major Alister Walker

We are extremely saddened to announce the death of Drum Major Alister Walker after a long illness.

Alister was part of the Vale for 55 years, beginning as a snare drummer. He later became one of our Drum Majors in addition to a long-standing role on the committee, including serving as our President.

Alister lived in Pitlochry with wife, Jane, and was very well known in highland Perthshire. He was also a long-standing member of the Atholl Highlanders and, along with Ian Duncan, marked 50 years with it in 2021. In addition, he was part of Perth’s business community for many years, through his photography premises in South Street.

A spokesman for the Vale said: “We are saddened by the news this morning of Alister’s passing. Alister – Bo – was a side drummer and Drum Major of the band for 55 years. A past President and Trustee of the organisation, he will be missed by all of us. He led us from the front for so long, philosophically and literally.

“Our condolences go to Jane, Elaine, Garth, Jack and all the family.”

Our Facebook page will contain funeral details when we have them.
